Qualifications: BA(Hons) Architecture (US)
Start date: April 2006
I joined Capita Ruddle Wilkinson as a project manager after returning to the UK from many years of work abroad in the US. I received higher education both here and in the US, graduating from the University of California at Berkeley in 1986. My background is based in both the private and public sector on commercial, institutional, education, retail and residential projects. I was involved in running a private architectural practice for many years before gaining valuable project management experience for a large building contractor.
The birth of our first child brought us back to the UK to be closer to family in the London area. I joined Ruddle Wilkinson just prior to its acquisition by Capita Symonds. The practice was an established and well recognised design firm with a broad range of sectors that offered a number of exciting opportunities. However, what truly sold me were my interviews with senior management there, which ultimately convinced me that this was the right practice for me.
Earlier in the year, we completed the conceptual phase of step-free access work at Green Park Station for London Underground. The project involves a new mobility impaired entrance and deep shafts/tunnels for lift accessibility to train platforms.
Between phases, I have been preparing documentation for the Westbourne Park and Sloane Square Station projects. The next phase of design development of Green Park is about to begin.
During my relatively short time here I've had the opportunity to both contribute my experience as well as gain valuable insight within the rail group. My project portfolio is very different to that of public transport which automatically brings a fresh perspective to the team. Conversely, I have been able to enhance my management approach with new techniques and ways of looking at the project.
