West London Line

Location: Shepherds Bush

Client: Westfield Shopping Towns Ltd

Project timescale: 2003-07

Project Value: £12m

The Project:

Three new railway stations are being constructed as part of the 1m sqft Westfield Shopping Centre development at White City in London.

One of these stations is a new overground station on the West London Line. Constructed by Norwest Holst it has been design and built to a very high standard and will be open in 2007. The station will form a key part of the shopping centre's southern transport interchange linking tube, heavy rail, bus, taxi and potentially light rail.

What was Capita Symonds role on the project?

We were appointed by the client as Project Managers and Employer's Representative on site.

Although designed and funded by Westfield, the eventual owner of the station was Network Rail and our major role was therefore liaison with Network Rail, the train operating companies and other stakeholders. Extensive experience of Network Rail's approvals processes and detailed knowledge of the integration of railway engineering disciplines enabled Capita Symonds to provide an on-site engineer who could also supervise the construction works.

What was YOUR role on the project?

As Capita Symonds' project director my role was overseeing the staff carrying out both the design and construction supervision, advising on railway interface issues and managing negotiations for extensions of time and extra costs.
