GL Hearn launches 2017 annual planning survey

1st September 2017

After six years of conducting a study on the planning system with the Annual Planning Survey, GL Hearn in partnership with the British Property Federation is working on a new approach to consider development management best practice and how we might be able to speed up processes.

The average national timeframes for determining major planning applications significantly exceeds national target timeframes (32+ weeks versus 13 / 16 week targets) set by the Government.  This has a significant impact on the timely delivery of property investment in England. The Government is presently seeking fresh perspectives on the development management process and how this could be improved from an ‘end to end’ process.

A series of workshops are being planned in the autumn to consider what practical improvements could be made to influence timeframes in the meantime the annual planning survey is now live and we invite all those involved in the planning process to take part.

It’s a short 10 minute survey and you can take part by following this link. Several ideas that have come out of previous surveys are now under active consideration by the Government. The survey has become a key event in the property industry calendar.

A copy of the survey findings from 2016 can be found here.
