Capita Symonds has signed up to WRAP’s
Halving Waste to Landfill commitment.
The company will seek to play its part in halving the
amount of construction, demolition and excavation waste going to
landfill by 2012 while working to adopt and implement standards for
good practice in reducing waste, recycling more, and increasing the
use of recycled and recovered materials.
Over 400 other signatories including Lend
Lease, Network Rail, Skanska and Stanhope (you can see a full

have signed up to the voluntary
Capita Symonds’ Head of Sustainability, Kate
Nelson, says: “This is a great opportunity to improve our
performance, reduce our carbon footprint and show ourselves to be a
leader in the sustainability arena.
As part of our commitment we also want to
raise the internal awareness of the principles of designing out
waste which seek to minimise waste in the design process before we
get to site. Over the last 18 months we have been working with
Capita Architecture/Capita Lovejoy to prepare project case studies
for WRAP on the Headley Court Help for Heroes Rehab Centre, several
of the BSF Projects, and Maiden Lane. We have demonstrated a good
