CIHT appointment for Capita Symonds engineer

29 September 2010

Katherine Agong, Senior Transportation Engineer at Cwmbran, has been invited by Alistair Haydock, Chair of The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) to sit on its newly created Engineering Professional Standards Panel.

This panel has been created to oversee the routes to professional registration with the Engineering Council. The Panel comprises members drawn from areas that can deliver the primary objectives of the panel. Members of the panel are members of the institution or co-options from areas that the panel believes require representation.

Katherine has been included on the panel due to her experience and commitment to mentoring others and her knowledge and experience of CIHT’s professional review process. Katherine herself has twice been through the gruelling professional review process. The first resulted in her being the first person in Wales and Capita Symonds to gain Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification; the second resulted in her becoming an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
The Engineering Professional Standards Panel will report to the Membership & Skills Strategy Board and its objectives are to:

  • ensure that CIHT is consistent and compliant with Engineering Council regulations in its professional review process.
  • make recommendations to the Membership & Skills Strategic Board on professional registration.
  • monitor the appeals procedure
  • make recommendations to the Membership & Skills Strategic Board on the
  • appointment and initial and on-going training of CEng, IEng and EngTech reviewers
  • develop appropriate arrangements for mentoring CEng, IEng and EngTech candidates
  • advise the Membership & Skills Strategic Board on the maintenance and extension of Engineering Council licenses, routes to registration, and representation on EC boards and committees
  • make recommendations to the Membership & Skills Strategic Board on approval of company training schemes.

Katherine will commence her duties on the CIHT Engineering Professional Standards Panel in October 2010 by examining the results of the October professional reviews and make recommendations to the Membership & Skills Board.
