Capita Symonds to re-plan Galloway Forest Park

10 August 2009

Capita Symonds’ Countryside Management team has been commissioned to re-plan the path network in Europe’s largest forest park.

The team will be working with contractor partners Dinsdale Moorland Services on the Forestry Commission Scotland scheme to appraise and plan improvements to 80km of paths in the Galloway Forest Park in Dumfries and Galloway.

The project includes planning trail improvements around some of the region’s best known land marks including ‘Murrays Monument’ and ‘The Merrick’. In addition the team will assess a selection of core paths around the heavily used Kirroughtree, Glentrool and Clatteringshaws visitor centres.

The region has recently received celebrated success with the introduction of the ‘7stanes’ mountain bike routes and the forestry commission wishes to improve the network of footpaths with a view to attracting larger numbers of walkers into the region.
