Capita Symonds on Harefield Academy

9 November 2007

A multi-discipline Capita Symonds team from its Blackburn and Kendal offices – plus Urban Vision in Salford - is currently working in conjunction with Taylor Woodrow on new buildings at a £21m academy in Harefield near Watford.

Capita Symonds’ work on the design and build project includes architectural, interiors, landscape, structural engineering, drainage and external works.

Harefield Academy, located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, offers 750 11-15 year olds and 250 sixth formers a core curriculum with a specialism in sport, sports science and health. Facilities include teaching accommodation, a sports hall, athletics track, a dry training facility and two full size football pitches.

The school, which is already the base for football’s Championship leaders Watford’s new youth academy, originally opened in September 2005 with the new Academy buildings due to open next year.

Richard Halstead, Associate Director, says: “The team have been working extremely hard to ensure that the new building remains true to the aesthetics of the initial design in terms of its visual impact, materials and ease of use. The works are on-programme, with all the external envelope now complete and internal fit-out on-going.”

“The school is delighted with our work on the project and have been very complementary of the team we’ve assembled. This is excellent feedback, especially as they may be looking to tender two further packages to complete the whole campus,” he adds.
