The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is the UK Government’s approach to implementing Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive. It is a mandatory energy assessment and energy savings identification scheme for organisations in the UK.
Organisations affected by ESOS will need to demonstrate compliance with the scheme every four years.
The second compliance phase lasts from 6 December 2015 to 5 December 2019 and the qualification date for eligible organisations is 31 December 2018. This means it is time to act now to meet the compliance deadline of 5 December 2019.

Implementing the ESOS findings
Implementing the recommendations of the energy audits is not mandatory, however organisations that do act on these measures will see cost reductions on energy bills and maintenance costs. The sooner you act, the sooner savings and benefits can be realised.
Failure to comply
If you do not comply by 5 December 2019 you may be liable to pay a fixed penalty (up to £5,000) and/or additional penalties for each day of non-compliance (up to £50,000). You will also still be required to take the necessary steps to comply with ESOS.
