Capita has become the first company in the world to be accredited to deliver the British Safety Council’s prestigious Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit.
Under the agreement, Capita’s trained auditors will deliver the British Safety Council’s Five Star health and safety audit to organisations in the UK care sector, such as residential nursing and care homes. The Five Star audit provides an independent and comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of an organisation’s entire occupational health and safety management system and associated arrangements, to ensure the risk of accidents and ill health at work is being appropriately managed.
The audit allows organisations of all types, sizes and sectors around the world to benchmark their health and safety management system against current best practice and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Companies that have recently achieved the maximum five star rating include Aston Martin Lagonda, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Office Depot UK.
Peter McGettrick, Director of Health and Safety at Capita, said: “This unique partnership further demonstrates that Capita are leading from the front in UK workplace health and safety, from the quality of our service delivery to the scale of our nationwide offering. We look forward to working together with the British Safety Council to develop our service to the benefit of our clients.”
Alex Botha, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “Expert, independent auditing has an important part to play in verifying the efficiency of an organisation’s occupational health and safety system, helping businesses to identify further ways of preventing work-related accidents, injuries, ill health and litigation costs.
I am delighted that Capita has been accredited to deliver the Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit to organisations in the UK care sector, and businesses can be assured that Capita's auditors will follow the same stringent quality controls as our own.
All the evidence shows that sensible and proportionate health and safety management is of great social and economic value; it protects people and can save organisations money. By successfully undergoing the Five Star health and safety audit, care sector businesses can improve their health and safety performance, workforce morale and wellbeing, and enhance their reputation among customers, business partners, shareholders and employees alike.”Alex Botha British Safety Council
