A new state of the art University Technical College (UTC) is to be built at MediaCityUK in Salford following approval from Salford City Council’s planning panel.
Works to build the new UTC, which is to be located at the junction of South Langworthy Road and Broadway in Salford Quays, involves the demolition of existing buildings and constructing a four storey 6478 sq m UTC along with associated landscaping and car parking.
Once built, the building will be able to accommodate 720 pupils.
The planning application had to be turned around extremely promptly so the UTC could be built and open by September 2014. Planners from Urban Vision – Capita’s joint venture with Salford City Council - worked closely with the applicants and colleagues at Salford City Council to ensure an early decision on the application was made by Salford’s planning panel.
BAM Construction has been appointed as the contractor to build the UTC and has started building works on site which will be ongoing over the next ten months.
