Swinton Gateway Starts On Site

6th January 2014

Work on the new £5 million Swinton Gateway Centre has started on site.

Designed by Urban Vision – Capita’s joint venture partnership with Salford City Council – the project involves the refurbishment and remodelling of the former Crompton House in Swinton and adding a three storey glass frontage extension to provide an additional 558 sq m of new floorspace.

When complete, the new building will house a range of community services including:

  • A customer advice and information centre
  • Healthcare facilities, incorporating an outpatients clinic
  • A community library
  • A new children’s centre
  • Office space for staff operating in the building
  • Community rooms
  • Mezzanine gallery space
  • City West housing information

The design will incorporate a single new entrance, shared glazed foyer and highly visible reception area. All traces of fixed inflexible space will be replaced with bright, open plan spaces that are accessible for all. A small courtyard area will also be created to provide a relaxing space for visitors and staff to sit.

A variety of trees, shrubs and hedges will be planted around the building which will not only enhance the biodiversity of the area, but along with soft architectural lighting, will create a boulevard and welcoming feel for visitors.

The project’s contractor is Kier Construction and work is expected to be complete in the autumn.
