Work begins on Leigh Guided Busway

13th January 2014

Work has started on the bus priority guided busway, a 4.5 mile guided track on the old railway alignment between East Bond Street in Leigh and Newearth Road in Ellenbrook where it will join a dedicated bus lane along the A580 (East Lancs Road) through Salford and through Manchester city centre.

The scheme will enable more punctual and reliable bus services with shorter journey times, ultimately reducing journey times between Leigh and central Manchester to less than 50 minutes.

– Capita’s joint venture partnership with Salford City Council - is providing project and cost management services on part of Transport for Greater Manchester’s bus priority scheme; the A580 East Lancashire Road.

The A580 project, which is due to be complete in 2015, will involve building around 2.5 miles of new bus lane along the East Lancs Road (A580) and converting one lane of the existing highway to a bus lane for around 2.25 miles of the A580 to a bus lane. There will still be a minimum of two lanes available for general traffic at all points along the A580.

Capita is also supporting the project’s traffic management and community engagement activities.
