Works to deliver the next phase of streetscene improvements along Liverpool Road are soon to start in Lower Irlam, Salford, between Station Road and Fairhills Road.
The works are part of an agreed overarching vision established by local residents, businesses and community representatives and endorsed by the local community committee.
The improvements will help create a more attractive and well maintained public realm and provide a safer and more pedestrian friendly environment by reducing vehicle speeds and creating more frequent and safer crossing points.
Urban Vision, Capita’s partnership with Salford City Council, completed the first phase of works in the autumn of 2013 which delivered a new central reservation with tree planting between Graham Crescent and Woodbine Avenue.
This phase of work, which has also been designed by Urban Vision’s landscape architects and engineers, will involve the installation of more pedestrian crossing points, wider pavements, central reservations, LED street lighting, as well as new street trees, benches and bollards. In addition works will take place to narrow the road and introduce 20mph speed limit zones to reduce vehicle speeds in the area.
Once complete the scheme will provide a safer and attractive environment that encourages more walking and cycling in the area.
