Capita’s property and infrastructure business has awarded its first British Safety Council five star health and safety accreditation.
Capita is one of only two companies in the world accredited to carry out the five star audit on behalf of the British Safety Council – one of the highest available industry standards.
The five star audit process involves an in-depth examination of an organisation’s entire health and safety management systems, focusing on key aspects of the company’s approach to managing occupational health and safety in the workplace. It examines the company’s leadership, organisation and structure, strategy, planning, implementation and review of health and safety management, while offering advice on how the company can continually improve to achieve best practice status.
Eland Cables, a global supplier of power, data and control cables to the world’s most demanding industries and to some of its most prestigious mining, construction, petrochemical and infrastructure projects, underwent a thorough audit in April and attained five star status.
Philip Brown, CEO of Eland Cables, said: “Our reputation has been built through an unswerving focus on quality, technical expertise and customer service. Alongside this commitment to our customers, we recognise and embrace our responsibility to our own people. I am very proud that our instigation of safe working practices, the provision of a safe environment and a commitment to our employees’ wellbeing has been recognised by Eland achieving five star status through the British Safety Council’s audit process.”
We are one of only two organisations in the world able to carry out these audits on behalf of the British Council and being able to deliver such good news was a bonus when dealing with Eland Cables, our first client. Eland Cables proved it had first class practices and management, and we had no hesitation in recognising that their operational practices are of the highest standard.
Director of health and safety
David Parr, head of technical services, for the British Safety Council, said: “The achievement of a five star outcome following the audit of Eland Cables should not be under estimated. The audit process is a robust examination of the entire safety management system and promotes excellence in workplace safety management. I am pleased that Capita have embraced the ethos of the audit in such a professional manner and look forward to expanding our collaborative approach to the five star audit process.”
