Capita's Multipix Work Nominated at National Rail Awards

17th September 2015

Capita’s revolutionary use of Multipix technology has been nominated for ‘Innovation of the Year’ at tonight’s National Rail Awards.

The awards recognise the best people, organisations, stations and projects in the railway industry with the innovation category specifically focussing on new rail technologies.

A lack of detailed or up to date asset records is a huge problem for the industry. It wastes countless hours, drains finances, and requires large teams to carry out lineside work in a hazardous environment. Capita is solving this problem by using Multipix technology to revolutionise the way that surveys of rail assets are carried out across the UK.

Over the last ten years the company has both developed and adopted SMART tools (Survey, Model, Asset and Research Technologies) to assist its teams in their everyday work. These tools underpin project delivery and provide added value and higher quality asset information throughout the lifecycle of a client’s assets and have been used on a whole range of.

As with any organisation surveying the railway, Capita takes a thorough photographic record as a matter of course. However, by using Multipix, the records do not comprise hundreds of untagged, unreferenced and unidentifiable separate static photographs, but a fully networked or web-enabled and referenced virtual tour which is available to view anywhere in the country - from any office and from any computer, tablet or smart phone.

This is achieved by taking panoramic images (using our specialist camera equipment) at key strategic points on site. These images are compiled into a navigable, interactive virtual tour that allows the user to effectively visit and travel through the site whilst accessing the web or network from the safe confines of an office, home, hotel or an alternative site location.

The awards will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
