ESA Vying For Two New London Awards

2nd July 2015

Two projects designed by ESA – part of Capita - have been shortlisted in the New London Awards 2015.

The Oriana II Oxford Street, W1, project is nominated in the ‘Mixed-Use’ category, while 64-66 Wigmore Street, W1, has been nominated in the ‘Office Buildings’ category.

The awards recognise the very best new and proposed architecture, planning and development in the capital.

ESA is leading the design of the Oriana II scheme on behalf of developer Oriana GP Ltd, a joint venture between Land Securities and Frogmore. The scheme will create a mixed-use, retail led development providing high quality, retail accommodation, maximising the Oxford Street frontage, which will extend to 76,500sqft over the basement, ground and first floors. There will also be 18 high quality private apartments ranging from one to three bed units.

The second phase follows the success of the initial phase which delivered 149,000sqft of retail space, let to Primark for their flagship store.

Meanwhile, 66-64 Wigmore Street is a £23million new build office development for Howard de Walden Estates in Marylebone that provides 70,000sqft of Grade A office space.

The project consisted of an early works contract for the demolition of the previous 1980s office building and the construction of a six storey post tensioned concrete frame that included a two storey basement via sheet piling and substantial raft foundations.

Features of the design included lightweight stone panel cladding within a glazed curtain walling system, green roofs, air source cooling to meet a 25% renewables target and chilled beams. Its new brick and stone southern facades respond to the largely Victorian context yet establish a modern character to this prominent urban corner. A challenging public art work is also being integrated into the Wigmore Street / Marylebone Lane facade.

The winners will be announced at the Guildhall in London on 7th July.
