Phase two of the University of Bristol’s National Composites Centre (NCC) project has won the 'Design Through Innovation' category at the RICS South West Awards 2015.
Sponsored by the University of Bristol, the NCC brings together companies and academics to develop new technologies for the design and rapid manufacture of high-quality composite products such as carbon.
Capita provided cost management and project management services on the project which enhances the existing NCC technology development and innovation space by providing further training facilities and small industrial workshops.
The industrial learning facilities provide a supported innovation environment for SMEs to quickly develop products and specialist process knowledge, using smaller scale standard design, manufacturing and testing equipment. The NCC also serves as an ideal training environment for individuals and small groups to obtain tailored learning to complement existing skill levels.
Current NCC industry membership has grown to 39 companies, with an initial bias towards aerospace, but with increasing participation from automotive, rail, oil & gas, marine, renewables, domestic goods, materials, simulation, tooling and equipment.
The judges were impressed by the “..innovative design and creativity of this Phase Two building and facilities across a wide range of criteria which has resulted in a very successful outcome and the project is a worthy winner of this category.”
