Port Salford Greenway Now Open

7th July 2015

A new £1million cycleway and pedestrian scheme in Salford has now officially opened for the public to enjoy.

Urban Vision – Capita’s partnership with Salford City Council - completed the designs for the Port Salford Greenway scheme that provides an attractive new cycle and walking link between Winton and the bustling commerce hub of Port Salford.
Funded by the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund, Salford City Council, and the Atlantic Gateway, the 1.5 km long, three metre wide route opens up previously impassable paths, creating a continuous cycling and walking link and giving new opportunities to cycle and walk to work.

Key features of the designs involve creating high quality walking and cycle paths, constructing a new footbridge, refurbishing the motorway subways at either end of the route, and opening up views. Signs have been installed to help direct people onto the route and to key destinations, and striking entrance features provide a friendly welcome to walkers and cyclists.

The new route located between Hallsworth Road and Blantrye Street in Eccles, will encourage walking and cycling as a healthy lifestyle choice as well as providing improved access to green spaces and leisure opportunities such as Moat Hall Wood, the former Cleavley tree nursery, Eccles Rugby Club and Cleavley Athletics Track.
