Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure has helped Northern Ireland Water deliver a £1.3m boost to strengthen its water storage and supply networks in the popular tourist area of Ballycastle in North Antrim.
Capita managed the Monaclough Service Reservoir project, which started in August 2016 and were involved the construction of a new reservoir, as well as improving the overall water mains infrastructure, required to supply water. The project was the final part in NI Water’s strategy to strengthen the storage and supply network in the North Antrim area.
The new reservoir, which at 2.5 megalitres is equivalent in size to an Olympic swimming pool, was constructed adjacent to the existing 0.5 megalitre reservoir. This was to ensure the continued operation of the NI Water site without any disruption to customers’ water supply during the construction phase. Following commissioning of the new reservoir, the existing tank was demolished and the site was finally landscaped.
Paul Davison, NI Water project sponsor, said: “The improvements made here at Monaclogh will bring significant benefits for the local population such as increased security of water supply and improved water storage capacity which will meet the needs of the growing population in the busy seaside town. I would like to congratulate the NI Water team involved in this project including our contractor GRAHAM Construction and Project Managers Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure.”
Capita’s involvement in the project began at the development stage, working closely with the asset delivery team in NI Water to produce the business case for the project, undertake the preliminary design in conjunction with the end-users, managing the planning application process, running the procurement competition, approving the contractor’s detailed designs, supervising construction works and overseeing project costs. The project was delivered both on time and to budget.
We are proud of the collaborative work we have achieved in North Antrim for Northern Ireland Water, helping them improve security and storage of their water supply from early planning through to delivery. This vital infrastructure investment will prepare them to meet future demands in the area, as well as responding to emergency situations.Justin Keane, Senior project manager Capita
