Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure’s Transport Planning Apprentice, Erin Ruddy, won the CIHT National Apprentice of the Year 2018 at the ‘Future of Transport’ Conference held in Leeds, on Thursday 15 November.

Erin, part of the Highways Design Team based in North Tyneside, was presented with her award trophy before an audience of 200 industry professionals at the event, which celebrated the talent and value that apprentices bring to the transportation sector and reflected their importance in the industry. As well as recognising Erin’s accomplishments, the award also highlights the commitment of Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure to apprenticeship training, in which Erin has been a shining example.

David Wall, Associate Director, North Tyneside Highway Design, Capita Real Estate & Infrastructure, who championed Erin for the award said:

“Erin is the first transport planning apprentice in our business. She has brought enthusiasm, drive and the belief to succeed. She has excelled in her academic studies, shown through her results and feedback from the college, as well as her understanding of the transport sector. Erin’s excitement and thirst for knowledge is rubbing off on others across her team, which is great to see. With support from her mentors and peers, I am confident she will continue to exceed expectations and be one of those next generation leaders in her field.”

Erin, who began her apprenticeship in September 2017, was one of six other shortlisted candidates nominated for the award and impressed the judging panel by demonstrating her commitment and contribution to the industry as well her ability to inspire others to follow a similar route.

Erin said:

“I’m delighted to receive such a prestigious award. I’m very proud of my achievements in this industry and it is a great feeling to be recognised for your efforts. The Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation is such a well-respected and well-recognised organisation within the Transport and Highways industry, I knew this would be a great opportunity to ‘put myself out there’ and expand on networking and my professional goals.”

Big congratulations to Erin!
