Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure’s project, Seething Lane Gardens, Ten Trinity Square was shortlisted in the “Design for a Small-Scale Development” category, and we are delighted to report that it went on to win a highly commended recommendation from the panel. The judges commented “This is an impressive and very high-quality scheme.”
Members of the Capita team attended the Landscape Institute Awards 2018 on Thursday 22 November at The Brewery, 52 Chiswell Street, London to see the award being made.
The Landscape Institute Awards are presented each year to landscape professionals in recognition of outstanding work. The awards celebrate the value of landscape practice in connecting people, place and nature by demonstrating excellence, innovation and creativity in the natural and built environment.
The Seething Lane Gardens project sought an innovative solution to deliver an enclosed pocket park that balances the needs of people, environment, heritage and townscape in the City of London. The garden only measures 0.3 hectares, but the redesign reflected the modern needs of open spaces whilst celebrating the sites rich history and maintaining the traditional look and feel of the original Garden Square. The resulting scheme improved proportions with its clever use of space by 20% greater in size with much improved amenity, quality, biodiversity, movement and safety.
Simon Pateman, Vice President, Project Management & Construction at Reignwood Group, comments “We are delighted to witness the completed renovation of the Seething Lan Gardens, having worked closely with the City of London Corporation for some time. When Reignwood took ownership of the Ten Trinity Square site and its adjacent gardens in 2011, we had a vision to restore the area to its former glory whilst protecting and celebrating its rich heritage. We look forward to welcoming visitors to these fine gardens for many years to come.”
Martin Kelly, Land Planning Director, comments “It is fantastic to receive a Highly Commended award for Seething Lane Gardens and is true testimony to the hard work of the Capita team. We were delighted to show our collaborative working to deliver a scheme of excellence, technical innovation in the design podium gardens above structures and maximising effective functionality in the design of confined green spaces.”
