STEAM Week: An Engineering Masterclass

8th March 2019

Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure are thrilled to once again be partnering with Westminster Borough Council as part of their STEAM Week initiative, which works with local schools to help broaden the horizons of young people aged 11-14 as they explore the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. STEAM week activities provide students with an understanding of the value and applicability of STEAM subjects in their careers. By working together with teachers and forging strong links with schools and colleges we are supporting STEAM teaching and investing in the UK’s future workforce.

During this week, on 14-15 March at the Gresham Street London office, our Graduates and Apprentices will be hosting an “Engineering Masterclass’ to local schools in Westminster. The workshop will provide an insight into the multi-disciplinary nature of engineering through presentations, activities and an industry tour from some of our female role models within the organisation.

Anita Camilleri, People Development Manager, highlights the importance of STEAM activities for the future of businesses: “Industries like ours rely on a supply of talent in STEAM subjects, at both graduate and technician level, but shortages are appearing that will hold our business back. Businesses are facing a serious challenge to access enough of these skills to compete and grow, so I believe we must educate more young people with the skills that will create flourishing careers and allow them take advantage of future opportunities. The benefits of STEAM engagement for our business can be significant, from staff development and skills building, to community relations and competitive brand positioning.”
