The Capita Housing team react to today's budget with Jules Bickers, Director of Housing consultancy, Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure commenting: "We are pleased to see the government’s response to the ongoing housing challenge. The most eye-catching measure is the abolition of stamp duty on purchases up to £300,000 a much needed tonic for first time buyers. £44bn for housing through a mix of funding, guarantee and loans is good news but we also need to see some positive action and more land coming to the market. We welcome Government’s encouragement of better use of land in our cities and towns for housing. Details are now needed to see how Government will ensure swift take up of funding and more details of Homes England new powers to accelerate housing supply. Clients report major risks around capacity. The Chancellor’s intent to encourage SMEs is good but we’d want to see strong policy levers being pulled to make this happen.”
