Andrew is a chartered civil and structural engineer with 30 years’ experience in building structures, with specialism in the conservation and repair of historic structures.
He is an experienced design manager in the delivery of structural projects. Andrew has expertise in the design of new structures as well as the surveying, appraisal and repair of new and old buildings/structures. These encompass masonry, concrete, timber, steel, wrought and cast iron materials. His broad experience includes schools, offices, hospices, residential, commercial, industrial and wastewater treatment projects. Combined with periods on site, this provides him with an appreciation for practical design solutions.
Andrew was the inaugural recipient of the IStructE Clancy Prize, in 2007, for his paper and presentation entitled “Our Role in Conservation”.
Andrew has acted as an expert for a number of matters. These include construction issues for a quay, potential causes of water damage within a hospital, probable reasons for instability and collapse of masonry during refurbishment works and timber flooring quality issues. He has also assisted the expert on several other cases. These include problems with a swimming pool roof structure, defects to a guided busway, differential concrete shrinkage effects in a multi-storey building, construction issues with shafts, cracking within a large reinforced concrete tank, and concrete cracking and water ingress issues within a hotel basement.
