Duncan is a quantum expert with over 30 years’ professional experience in the construction industry, working with national and international contractors and major consultancies on projects across all sectors with values from below £100,000 to several billions of pounds.
Duncan started his career as a contractor’s site quantity surveyor, working on prestigious projects such as London City Airport. He worked for more than 10 years in the quantity surveying teams of contractors before working in private practice quantity surveying and project management consultancy. Duncan became the retail and commercial lead for AECOM (formerly Davis Langdon) in the Peterborough office, where he carried out the cost control and project management of commercial, retail, mixed-use schemes and leisure developments. Duncan also gained extensive experience of working with registered social landlords including the cost and project management of new-build projects and reactive and planned maintenance programmes.
Since 2008 Duncan has specialised in dispute resolution, acting as expert witness, assisting other experts, and providing quantum advice to colleagues and third parties. He is familiar with working on projects and disputes using standard and bespoke main works contracts and sub-contracts including JCT, NEC, FIDIC and PPC2000. He has given training on the use, and abuse, of NEC3. He has been named as expert in numerous disputes and has given written and oral evidence in court and in adjudication proceedings.
