Joseph Murphy - Associate, Highways

Joseph is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 10 years of experience in design, construction management, and transaction advice. Joseph has particular expertise in geotechnical engineering having gained a Masters from Imperial College London and is a registered ground engineering professional. Joseph’s design and construction experience covers the highways and rail sectors, meaning he is familiar with the procurement processes, standards and delivery for Highways England and Network Rail.

Joseph has led transaction advisory projects from initial due diligence to construction and operation phases in the UK and Europe. He has managed interactions with designers, contractors, commercial lenders, bond providers, and multilateral institutions. His projects have included:

  • A465 in Wales due diligence; an on-line highway widening in difficult ground conditions under the new MIM contract,
  • Silvertown tunnel due diligence; a soft ground shallow tunnel under the River Thames,
  • D4R7 Bratislava; large CAPEX motorway with a bridge over the River Danube with environmental constraints,
  • AE Douro Litoral, AE Baixo Tejo, AE Atlantico, and AE Litoral Centro; real toll and availability based operational PPPs in Portugal.
