Addressing the need to modernise the building both internally and externally, the Design and Workplace Strategy team engaged with the client and wider multi-disciplinary consultants to deliver this large refurbishment project.
Increasing the appeal of the building by replacing the Ground Floor facade glazing with large frameless glazing, further work was undertaken to introduce light in the building, specifically at Lower Ground Floor level. Cutting away the Ground Floor structural slab adjacent to the pavement and installing glazing modules offers natural light to that level, increasing the net internal area available for office accommodation.
Internally, the building was stripped back to shell and core. The design team carefully selected and set out new ceilings, raised floors and lighting to provide a much needed ‘wow’ factor to the lettable office spaces. The common parts areas were redesigned with new finishes, as were the reception area, lift cars & WCs. Showers and a bike storage facility were introduced as part of the BREEAM strategy for the building.
