Fire Service College

Client Fire Service College
Project Value £8.9m
Status Complete

In March 2013, the fire minister Brandon Lewis announced the completion of the sale of the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh to Capita and said that the "360-acre Cotswolds-based college had at long last been given the best possible chance to fully realise the huge potential for this world-class asset.”

Led by our Birmingham office, Capita assembled a multi-faceted team including project management, quantity surveying, CDMC, real estate services, planning and environmental consultants, architects, civil and structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers and asbestos consultants.

Working with the college and in response to the unique challenge set by our Capita Group CEO, it was established that the immediate requirement was to have a new £6.4m 100-bed accommodation block designed, constructed and open for delegate use by the end of May 2014. Concurrent to the development and building of the new block, we converted an existing building into a ‘live’ fire station and completed a £2.5m breathing apparatus facility.

The challenge was further compounded by the requirement to demolish four existing redundant accommodation blocks, one of which was located on the site area of the new building all of which were inhabited by bats and contained high levels of asbestos and all within 11 months.

This requirement was achieved with the fire station and the new 100-bed accommodation block both being completed on time and within budget.

The modular construction of Braidwood House accelerated the construction of 100 additional bedrooms during a period of peak demand. This enhanced revenue, reputation and delegate experiences."
