Capita were appointed by BT as multi-disciplinary Lead Consultant for the development of a new Data Centre in Eldon House Telephone Exchange, in Sheffield.

The scheme involved development of high security conditioned space to house a data centre, complete with all associated power and cooling requirement within the 2nd floor level of the exchange.

The specification was designed to meet the exacting requirements of BT and the end user for usage as a Data Centre.

Capita's role as Lead Consultant comprised the following in-house services:

  • Project Manager
  • Cost Manager
  • Structural Engineer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Building Surveyor
  • CDM Co-ordinator

The highly experienced project team worked with BT and specialist suppliers in order to clearly define the project scope and requirements and successfully deliver a design and specification which met with the requirements of BT and the End Users.

Provision of in-house CDM co-ordination ensured compliance with the CDM Regulations 2007 and the consistent application of H&S advice from initial feasibility development through to post-construction.

The increased ventilation requirements also necessitated the installation of louvres existing windows. Capita successfully prepared and managed the planning application of behalf of BT, in keeping with all programme deadlines.
