Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure works with private and public sector organisations to design, build and optimise their real estate and infrastructure assets.
From inception to delivery, we apply our combined property and infrastructure expertise to achieve more from the entire built environment.
This £1bn project involved the construction of a 300km pipeline from Milford Haven in West Wales to Gloucestershire, which is capable of carrying a fifth of the natural gas required by the UK. Capita provided full project services on two of the pipeline’s major sections in South Wales - Aberdulais (120km) and Felindre to Brecon (80km).
During the course of this project, Capita provided design co-ordinators, project managers, project supervisors, construction managers, construction engineers, quantity surveyors, land agents, ALO’s, document controllers, health and safety managers, environmental managers, and archaeologists.
Capita has an extensive and specific knowledge relating to the design and construction management of Above Ground Installations (AGI’s). We were responsible for the management of the National Grid AGI’s within South Hook LNG (named Herbrandston) and Dragon LNG (named Newton Noyes).
The scheme also included an AGI at Derwen Fawr with an intermediate block valve at Llangynog. As part of this project, there is new filtration, metering, heating, pressure and volumetric control required at Derwen Fawr to control the gas pressure and flow rate into the existing No. 2 Feeder pipeline.
We applied design, safety and engineering principles to the construction of the all the AGI’s whilst meeting the client requirements in terms of specification, budget and timescales. This was a particular challenge as the time constraints were exceptionally tight, exacerbated by the associated planning issues that placed significant challenges on the team to ensure the receipt of planning approval. The project team on site had to maintain control of the construction team, allowing progress to be made and implementing design changes in line with the client requirements.
As construction neared completion, Capita then provided the team to manage commissioning of the sites together with the testing and commissioning of the connecting pipeline. The MWC and the Capita project team, worked closely to deliver the AGI’s and connecting pipeline within the time window and to the required standards specified by the client.
